Jacob 5-7

5:72

72 And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them; and they did obey the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard in all things.

This scripture means a lot to mean as I am preparing to leave on my mission. I love that thought of going and laboring and being a full time servant of the Lord. Being a servant of the Lord is a phrase we hear a lot in the LDS church but if you take a second to think about it, why servant?

I think he chooses to use servant because we are working for him at all time. As master, he needs servants to help him push forth the work. And I like the idea of servant instead of slave because obviously we have our agency and must choose to be one of his servants. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to go to Ecuador and be able to serve the people there.

Another part of this verse I love is the fact that the Lord is serving right along side us. It is obvious that the Lord of the vineyard truly cares about his vineyards wellbeing along with his servants because he is working toward the success of all as well. Having your boss, so to speak, go through these things along side you also gives you as a worker more confidence and trust in him.

Because of our love for our master we obey the commandments he has given us. Obeying the Lord through following his commandments is one of the biggest ways we can express our deep love for the Lord, to the Lord.
