2 Nephi 6-10

8:12-13

12 I am he; yea, I am he that comforteth you. Behold, who art thou, that thou shouldst be afraid of man, who shall die, and of the son of man, who shall be made like unto grass?

13 And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth, and hast feared continually every day, because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?

This verse reminds me of Hamlet. At one point in the play, Hamlet does a monolog about death being the great equalizer of man; even Alexander the Great died. So it is interesting then to take a step back and look at how swayed we are by the people in this world. If we had our perspective glasses on right all the time, we would care less about what anyone was doing or saying around us. But here we are just normal human beings, so swayed by each other.

As laid out in these versus, it is astounding to ponder on the things Christ has done for us along with the paths he has made available for us. Not only has he created a path for us, he then come and walks every step of the way with us. That does not mean he can always catch us when we trip and fall, but that does mean he is right there to be the first to pick us up and dust off our knees. And when things get seemingly too hard to even walk on, he is there to carry us until we can stand on our own two feet once again.

Hard times are inevitable. We have all experienced hardships and a lot lay in our futures. But that is exactly what is going to make us into spiritual giants. Your biceps will never magically become bigger and stronger, you have to work hard enough to rip them and break them down, leaving them with new places to grow and gain strength.

Bottom line though is we need to remember Christ continually. We need to remember the great future we have after this life and the personal guide we have for throughout this life. He his here with each of us individually to comfort us. He has been through it all and knows what we need, so why wouldn't we open ourselves to that kind of help and strength?
